FAQ'S!

How Young Can a Child Receive Treatment?

The American Association of Orthodontics (AAO) recommends an orthodontic screening for children by the age of 7 years. At age 7 the teeth and jaws are developed enough so that the orthodontist can see if there will be any serious bite problems in the future.

Is It Too Late to Have Braces If I Am An Adult?

We treat pediatric and adult patients. Health, happiness, and self-esteem are vitally important to adults. No patient is too old to wear braces or aligners to create a beautiful and healthy smile.

How Long Will I Have My Braces?

The amount of time you will need to wear braces varies, depending on several things, such as the severity of your bite problem. Most patients need to wear braces for 12 to 24 months, but this can be shorter or longer depending on your case. Dr. Schoenfeld will discuss this with you and give you a general idea of what you can expect.

Do You Offer Financing Options?

We offer affordable financing through (INTEREST FREE) flexible monthly payments. We aim to make your treatment easy and stress-free. We offer discounts for military personnel, first responders, teachers and pay-in-full treatments.

Do You Accept Insurance?

We work with all PPO insurance plans. We’ll review your benefits at your first consultation. You may also be able to use funds from an FSA  or HSA.

Aligners vs. Braces?

Braces and clear aligners are both effective orthodontic treatments, each with its own benefits. Braces are a reliable, fixed option, though they are more visible and require careful oral hygiene. Aligners are nearly invisible and removable, offering more flexibility but requiring consistent wear. The best choice depends on your lifestyle and needs. Schedule a free consultation with us to determine the right option for your smile!

Will It Hurt?

Generally, braces do not hurt. However, you may feel a little sore or uncomfortable immediately after you first get them. The Damon system ensures greater comfort throughout treatment. This system uses far lighter forces to move the teeth to their correct position. Many people wearing the Damon system experience very little discomfort during treatment.

Are There Foods I Cannot Eat While I Have Braces?

Yes. Once treatment begins, we will explain the complete instructions and provide a comprehensive list of foods to avoid. Some of those foods include ice, hard candy, raw vegetables and all sticky foods (i.e. caramel and taffy). You can avoid most emergency appointments to repair broken or damaged braces by carefully following our instructions.

Can I Still Play Sports?

Yes. We recommend a mouth guard for all sports. Ask Dr. Schoenfeld about mouth guards during your appointment.

If I Have Braces, Do I Still Need Dental Checkups Every 6 Months?

Yes! Regular checkups with your family dentist are important while in braces. Your family dentist will determine the intervals between cleaning appointments while you are in braces.
